Psalm 112:1-4 - Praise the LORD.
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds
great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in
the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his
house, and his righteousness endures forever. Even in darkness light dawns for
the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous
man.
This anonymous writer tells us to praise God…that all that
find delight in following his commands will be richly blessed. Even when this man struggles….the light of
God will show him a path to blessings he never realized were there while he was
struggling.
If one reads this Psalm literally...they would think that
all Christians who follow God’s way exactly have an easy road. Our children turn out to be mighty leaders….we
will be wealthy…and live long lives. But
many of us that have tried to follow God’s commands in our lives…can’t say that
we are rich…or have perfect children.
I immediately thought of Laura Story’s song Blessings. It paints a beautiful picture that helps us
understand why all the things we pray for don’t always materialize the way we
pray for them. God’s blessings are not always what we visualize with our human
hearts and eyes. He knows that what we
pray for sometimes will hurt us more that help us. God’s definition of wealth is not always in
terms of our bank account.
Sometimes it is our sleepless nights….our tears…and our pain
that he teaches us the most important lesson that it takes more effort to be “IN
LOVE” with God…than just to love him. When we are truly in love with him….nothing
else matters…nothing else is more important. We begin to see the true blessings
in our lives….that were concealed by our pain and tears. Here’s the link to her
great song…sorry about the commercial…lol.

Father….thank you for the reminder
that I need to be “IN LOVE” with just you this morning. Help me to fall deeper
in love with you each day…so I can recognize the many blessings in my life that
I have always thought of as problems. Thank
you for making me rich in ways that I never imagined…family…great friends….a
wonderful loving church family…a great job….and the freedom and time to read
and study your great Bible. Amen.
