Ezekiel 30:1-4 - The
word of the LORD came to me: "Son
of man, prophesy and say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: " 'Wail and say, "Alas for that day!" For the day is near, the day of
the LORD is near-- a day of clouds, a time of doom for the
nations. A sword will come against
Egypt, and anguish will come upon Cush.
When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her
foundations torn down.
Ezekiel was given a word for the people of Egypt. God was
going to use Nebuchadnezzar to bring about his judgment on this people who had
berated and caused the Israelites so much pain and suffering. Any nation that
had helped them would go down with them. The Israelite’s were given a clear
message to never trust anyone who held loyalties to Egypt.
God told them to wail and weep for this time of
destruction. God wanted them to feel the
deepest loss for the loss of so many people. He wanted them to feel a holy fear
for the judgment he was bringing to all the nations that did not choose to
believe in him.
War and destruction is such a hard situation for all of us
to understand. It is easy to forget that God is in control of every action…every
injury…every death. We are to weep and wail for the loss of life…for the souls
that are ended without a choice to follow God. We are to pray for God to use
each minute of every horrible war to work his purposes…to bring about his
perfect will for all on earth.
Father…thank you for the reminder to spend time weeping for
the loss of life and resources that war causes. Help me to not despair…but to
trust in your bigger picture….to trust that you are in control and will use
each death…each town destroyed….each child orphaned…each family separated….each
injured innocent…each injured soldier…to bring about your will here on Earth.
Amen.
