Romans 10:13-15 - for,
"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." How, then, can they
call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one
of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to
them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As
it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
There it is…in just a few words…our
purpose…our task. We are to be the feet
of Jesus…if we don’t…how does anyone else ever come to know him? It is one
thing to feed ourselves…to worship…to drink in his word and learn….but
eventually God will send us out…like Paul….to share his love….to teach others…and
see others saved! We are to bring the good news to others!
I know…you just don’t see
yourself as the preacher type….I don’t either.
So maybe we should expand our notion of what it means to preach…stop
thinking of a preacher being the one behind the podium on Sunday…reading scripture
and explaining it one verse at a time.
If we open up our minds to the power of Christ… we can open up our
hearts to new ways to share …to preach…to those that have not heard.
Truth is we preach with our
actions every day….whether we want to or not.
We show what we believe about Christ as we walk and talk with others
each day. If we are weak…we show them the Jesus who can carry us when our energy
is gone. If we are strong…we show them
the faith Jesus can give. If we pray…they
see who we depend on for life itself.
Father…help me be a better
preacher. Help me to show the world what
you have done for me in my daily routines.
Make my feet beautiful….beautiful feet that goo where you send them…and
are ready to share your love. Amen.
