Proverbs 1:5-7 - let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-- for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom
and discipline.
I am so glad that Solomon did not keep the gift of wisdom to
himself. He took the time to write down
some of the great wisdom that God gave him when he asked for it. He admitted his
inadequacy to rule a great nation…and humbly ask God for the wisdom he needed
to be a strong leader for his people. He
followed his own advice and feared God so he could let him teach him more than
he ever imagined about life.
Once we admit that we don’t know it all…God can begin to
expand what we do know into a deeper understanding of how he wants us to use
the knowledge we do have. He helps us
grow and develop new understanding till the day we cross over into his glory in
Heaven. If we listen…if we study his
word…it comes alive in our own lives and becomes a model for others.
Solomon made sure to warn us to guard against the pride that
tries to convince us that we know all we need to know about any part of God’s
creation. We only know what God has
revealed to us…we must keep an open mind and heart…so he can pour more and more
of his wisdom into our heart. Only then will the knowledge we have managed to
store in our brain make sense.
Father…thank you for the gift of wisdom that you gave to Solomon…and
thank you for helping him to write some of those great truths down for me to
read. Forgive me for the times that I
have been prideful…and thought I knew more than I did. Help
me to always consider the deeper insight that you might allow me to see if I take
the time to really study...and dig deep down in the Bible you gave us to live
by. Amen.
