Luke 15:1-2 - Dishonest tax collectors and
other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus’ sermons; but this caused complaints from the Jewish
religious leaders and the experts on Jewish law because he was associating with
such despicable people—even eating with them!
Jesus was surrounded with people who came
to listen to Him teach. Some were high
in positions of honor…..some were poor and needy…and others were dishonest and
notorious sinners. Jesus loved them all…and met each one where they were
willing to sit and talk about their soul. Jesus was a friend to sinners…he did
not hide form them or judge them because of the things they had done in their
past.
What a great reminder that we should feel
the same way about people. We should love others and meet them where they are
in life…offering our friendship and love.
We are not to judge them…just love them with the love that God has given
us. We are not to be fearful of them…but let God’s power and strength give us
all that we need to minister to their needs. And as they see Jesus in our lives…they
may just want to know what gives us the power to love all people.
Father….thank you for the reminder that all
people deserve your love the same. Forgive me for the times that I have judged
instead of seen the pain of others….ran away in fear instead of hugged and
loved….or made excuses not to help because of pride. Help me to see all people
the same…and not to judge them by the things they have done in their past. Amen.
