Colossians 3:14-15 - Most
of all, let love guide your life, for then the whole church will stay together
in perfect harmony. Let the peace of
heart that comes from Christ be always present in your hearts and lives, for
this is your responsibility and privilege as members of his body. And always be
thankful.
Paul used the peace of heart he
tells us about here every day. He did not let his circumstances dictate his
attitude day by day….he let God’s love and grace embed him with enough strength
to make it through the toughest of situations. He knew that no matter what he
would be joined with Christ someday. He let that thought power him through
prison…shipwrecks….beatings….and public mocking.
Paul felt this wasn’t only the
way we should be… he said it was our responsibility as Christians. He said it
was a privilege. He even added that we
should be thankful we were given the chance to have them.
I admit that true peace of heart
is a hard thing to accomplish and keep ALL the time… mostly because we let the disappointments
of life break our spirit. We forget very
quickly the power we hold in Christ when things get tough. Paul combated that
issue with daily prayer and Bible study….fellowship with other Christians…and
encouraging others to stay strong. He practiced
what he preached. Love definitely ruled
his heart and that brought him the peace that passes ALL understanding from
Christ.
Father….thank you for the
reminder to let love guide all my thoughts and actions. Forgive me for the
times that I have let life beat me down and forgotten that your peace is always
there in my heart. Help me to feel your
sweet peace quickly each day…before life has a chance to steal it away from me
again. Amen.
