Isaiah 9:5-7 - In that day
of peace, battle gear will no longer be issued. Never again will uniforms be
bloodstained by war. All such equipment will be burned. For a child is born to us, a son is given to
us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal
titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace. His ever expanding,
peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and
justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the
LORD Almighty will guarantee this!
Isaiah’s words were literal. He prophesied the coming of the
Messiah….a small baby come into the world to bring peace and justice. He may have had a different vision in those
days of how this baby would grow and become an earthly king….but he knew the
words he spoke were coming true in some lifetime.
Those of us that have read the story of his life….death….and
resurrection still wait for this time of perfect peace. We long for those that have been assigned to
protect us to come home on a permanent basis….never to don the uniform again. We
cry tears on this special day that we celebrate the sacrifice of those that
gave their life to give us the freedom to worship God whenever we want. We
celebrate the blessing God has placed on this country….even though we still see
much pain…suffering…and injustice at times.
I don’t believe we have to wait for Revelation to happen to
see the perfect peace that Isaiah speaks of here. I believe that we have access
to it if we have accepted God into our heart.
Paul speaks of it in Philippians 4:7… “And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.” For me…that means that I can tap
into the perfect peace and justice that Isaiah foretold right now….with the
help of the Holy Spirit Jesus left to be our guide.
Father…thank you for the reminder that even though I see war
and pain around me daily…there is coming a time when you will end all pain and
tears. You will retire all military
needs and place perfect peace and justice in its place. I thank you on this anniversary of our
wonderful America for all that gave their lives to give me religious freedom. I
thank you for all those that are currently somewhere besides their comfy homes
because they chose to serve their country and protect that freedom. Bless them father…and let them and the family
that misses them so much feel your perfect peace for a time today.Amen.
