Hebrews 6:11-12 - And
we are anxious that you keep right on loving others as long as life lasts, so
that you will get your full reward. Then, knowing what
lies ahead for you, you won’t become bored with being a Christian nor become
spiritually dull and indifferent, but you will be anxious to follow the example
of those who receive all that God has promised them because of their strong
faith and patience.
The writer of Hebrews reminds us that life does not stop when
we think we have reached our happiest and most content moments. He tells us to
keep on loving as long as life lasts. He tells us to never let our Christian
walk become so routine that we are bored…but stay anxious to always follow the
examples of great men and women we read in the Bible.
He even tells us one of the ways to achieve this goal. It is
by holding on to the promises God has made in His word…holding fast to hope and
cultivating a faith that produces patience in God’s timing. Hope and faith produce not just patience…but
boldness and courage to step outside the realm of the known in our lives.
I love how he ties it all back to our salvation in verse 19.
If we let God become our trustworthy anchor….our salvation in Him connects us
forever to God. Jesus becomes not just
our savior…but our adversary…pleading with his father the way he plead for
himself in Gethsemane.
Father…thank you for the reminder that loving others is a
forever commitment. Forgive me for the
times that I have let the happiness and contentment of a moment allow me to
rest a little too long. Help me to never
settle for one happy moment…but seek more and more as I trust and hope in your
great promises. Amen.
