Hebrews 3:14 -15 - For
if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as we did when we first became
Christians, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. But now is
the time. Never forget the warning, “Today if you hear God’s voice
speaking to you, do not harden your hearts against him, as the people of Israel
did when they rebelled against him in the desert.”
Such compelling words from this writer that is
unidentified. Trust God as we did when
we first believed…never forget his warning that if God speaks to you we need to
listen and heed his words. Hesitating for a moment runs the risk of hardening
our heart to God’s voice.
I admit that it is sometimes hard to hear his voice. I also admit that it is sometimes hard to
trust what we think he is saying to us. God’s directives have a way of taking
us out of our comfort zones….listening means depending on him just a bit more
than we did before…sometimes a lot more than we ever have.
Our lack of trust will also result in missing out on
whatever blessing God had in store for us if we had listened and obeyed. Sometimes we get second chances …like Jonah…but
look at what he went through in the belly of that fish to learn to listen in
the first place.
Trusting God brings that peace that surpasses all
understanding to our heart. Even if what
God asks us to do brings pain…we have a peace about it. We know God is going to
use our pain to help build his kingdom….and to help others. We know that the amount of time we spend in
uncomfortable situations will bring joy in the end. It helps us hold onto the promise
of God in Jeremiah 29:11. His plans for us are good…they are meant to prosper
us and bring us hope for our future.
Father…thank you for the reminder to listen to you …obey you….and
trust you to always have our best interests in mind. Forgive me for the times that I have doubted
your plan…shut off your voice…or tried to do my own thing without you. Help me to focus completely on your still
small voice that will always lead me exactly where you need me to be. Help me
to always trust that you have a plan to use everything you ask me to do to the
good of the kingdom. Amen.
