Blessing or Curse

Deuteronomy 11:7-12 -  But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the LORD has done.  Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,  and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your forefathers to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.  The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden.  But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.  It is a land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.

Moses made sure to remind the Israelites that their children had not seen any of the great miracles of God that got them to this point.  He needed to remind them one more time just how important it was that they teach God laws to the most precious resource they had….that they model for them how to follow the simple rules he gave them to insure a content life in this land…that they pass on more than just how to herd a sheep…or how to plant a grape vine…. as they instruct them for the future.  He needed them to plant the great love of God so deeply in their own soul…that it naturally seeded into their offspring.

God will take care of the rest…if you plant the seed.  He will water it…and irrigate it…and care for it…because he loves it.  His eyes never leave us...they continually dwell on his creation…and he send good things down for us to enjoy.  His blessings rain down from Heaven to sustain us …if we choose to follow him…and serve him…and love him…with everything that is in our heart and soul and mind. It is his way…to always let us choose.

God also watches Satan as he roams the Earth…looking for the easiest ways to trap us into believing his lies.  He allows Satan to set his traps…and watches us as we make our own choices….and the blessings of God turn quickly to curses if we are tricked by Satan to choose his ways. I\If we read a bit further in this chapter…it clearly says… “ See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse--  the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today;  the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.”

Father…thank you for the blessings of choosing to follow you. My list would be so long that I would be here for hours listing them all. Truth be known...you have probably given me blessings I don’t even recognize yet.  Continue to guard me against Satan lies…and help me see his tricks clearly…so I can choose to follow only your rules and ways.  Keep my love for you so strong that Satan can’t figure out a way to get a word in edgewise…so that I can accomplish what you placed me here to do. Amen.
