There Is Only One God

Deuteronomy 13:1-3  - If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods”(gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Moses knew that as they settled in the and God was giving them…an occasional false prophet would rise up among them. His words were clear …even if they were a family member...they were to be purged from among them….so their lies did not spread to others .  He said that these were placed in their path as a test…to see if their hearts and souls really feared and loved God more than anything.

I am so thankful for Jesus death on the cross on this command from Moses.  No longer do we need to put a false prophet to death by stoning. But as 1 John 4:1  says…”Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Moses was clear…any dreamer or prophet that says there is any other god but God the father…Jesus the son….and The Holy Spirit he sends to help us till his second coming is not from God.  He would never raise up an earthly creature to do what Jesus his son has already done. We are not to be tricked or deceived into believing in anything or anyone that says otherwise.

We are to make sure that we speak the truth in love to all that believe differently.  Many people we encounter are steeped in other religions from birth. The faith they have in whatever they believe is strong.  We must pray for wisdom and words and the perfect times to present the gospel to these lost souls.

I have been fasting beef and pork for 6 years now…using the times I am presented with these meats as an opportunity to pray for the salvation of two young girls I taught some years ago. They were raised Muslim and Hindu…and the family they were raised in are good people…who taught them their faith well. This year they go to college…separated from daily contact with this strong family. I am even more hopeful that God will send some faith young Christians directly into their path…to teach them the truth.

Father…thank you for the reminder that you are the only true God.  Forgive me for the times that I take my salvation for granted and don’t heed your directive to pray for the lost who believe in other gods or no god at all.  Help me to renew my vow to pray for the lost…and allow you to place in me a new wisdom and timing to share what you have taught me with those that are lost. Amen.
