Genesis 49: 1-2 and 28 - And Jacob called his sons and said,
“Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days: “Gather together and
hear, you sons of Jacob,
And listen to Israel your father.
And listen to Israel your father.
… All these are the
twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke
to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own
blessing.
Jacob called his sons to his side before he died to speak
blessings and prophecy over them. He did not mince words….recalling the actions
of each that had strengthened or weakened their faith…then speaking what the
spirit of God had given him to say about their future. The words were truthful …
reminding each how their actions would affect the rest of their lives.
I love the way Jacob loved his sons despite the scars sin
had left on their lives. He blessed each
one…..according to what the spirit told him to say. He called all of them to
him and spoke over each and every one. He knew that some of them had messed up…but
he loved them anyway.
It is a reminder to me that Jesus loves us despite the sin
that we let creep into our lives. He
speaks those hard words that convict us of our sins….and blesses us despite the
fact that we don’t deserve them. He calls
each of us to him every moment of every day…and breathes a clean new spirit
into the life that we damaged with our sin.
Father…thank you for the reminder that you love us no matter
what. Forgive me for the times that I
forget the cost of my salvation…thank you for loving me even though I deserve
death. Amen.
