We Need Some Mordecai's

Esther 10:2-3 -    And all his acts of power and might, together with a full account of the greatness of Mordecai to which the king had raised him, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Media and Persia?  Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews.

The king made an excellence choice in Mordecai.  He was raised to great power throughout the kingdom. He won the respect of the king and all the people of the land. Mordecai worked for the good of the people…all his decisions were based on sustaining or improving the conditions of the Jews. All the people thought very highly of everything he did.

We need some Mordecai’s in our government these days. It is hard to find anyone to respect in the present line up of congress and senate members who thinks it is more important to demand their own way instead of work out a compromise. I sure don’t have any respect for those who have allowed their differences to shut our government down.

It’s hard to follow the directions given to us in Romans 13:1-7…where we are told to submit and respect those in office because God had a hand in placing them there.  It seems they have forgotten the directions given to us in Titus 3:9…not to quarrel about the law.  It says… “ But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.” And yes...I know it is really talking about the laws of Moses…not the rules that run America… but maybe that it part of the problem too.  How can we expect our government to follow the laws of God when we can’t even post the 10 commandments he gave us on a government building wall.

I will admit that I have not done my part to change this fact…and I need to spend more time following the advice of Paul from 1 Timothy 2:1-2… it says…. “ I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” Maybe we need a mass prayer meeting that connects the 50 states…to petition to God to intervene…before it gets any worse.

I know that prayer is the answer to stopping this madness they created with their bickering.  For I know that God is still in control of the seeming chaos…..and has already put in motion a plan to keep his will the driving force of the world’s decisions. No matter how bad it gets…or desperate people seem…God has a plan….to prosper us…and give us his great blessings… just like it says in Jeremiah 29:11…. “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Father…thank you for the model of Mordecai…that reminds me to pray for those who have been given the task of making the important decisions of our world.  I pray this morning that you will intercede in a mighty way in America’s government…and that my single prayer will start a giant fire of passionate prayers across the nation…to place in the hearts of those that can end this government shut down…a deep need to reconnect with you…and begin to think of all the people’s best interest. Let us all pray the words recorded in Matthew 6:24….that say…. “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”  I plead with you dear Lord to help all our leaders see that you are more important that the dollars in their bank accounts…or the power in the votes of their districts. I pray you place in the heart of every government leader…the need to come to you in prayer and ask what you would have them do. Amen.
